Minority rights a concern as Israel marks its 60th anniversary

Press releases |

As 60th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the state of Israel takes place this week the country’s minority rights record remains a major concern. Palestinian citizens of Israel continue to face state and societal discrimination and minority rights are often compromised on national security grounds. Minorities also continue to face land rights violations. In the Negev desert, the longstanding Israeli government practice of arbitrarily destroying Bedouin homes continued into 2007.

For more details on minorities in Israel please see the country entry in the World Directory of Minorities and Indigenous Peoples.
