Baha’is arrested in Iran; one worked for Shirin Ebadi’s rights organizations
Five Baha'is human rights activists who were arrested in Tehran last week remain in prison without charges and have not been given access to lawyers or family members, the Geneva based Baha'i International Community says.
The five activists were arrested in a raid by government security agents of 13 homes in Tehran where Baha'i religious material, other documents and photographs were confiscated.
A Baha'i International Community statement says that one of the activists arrested worked at human rights organizations connected with Nobel prize winner Shirin Ebadi.
"The arrest of these individuals reflects not only the grave situation facing Baha'is in Iran but also the overall human rights situation there," said Diane Ala'i, a representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations in Geneva.
"As far as we know, all of these people were arrested primarily because they are Baha'is," said Ms Ala'i.
