Upcoming performances at Halmstad International Street Theatre Festival
Minority Rights Group International (MRG) is pleased to announce that the Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation (APTF), from Lebanon, and the Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation (APTF), from Lebanon, and the National Centre for Culture and Arts (NCCA), from Jordan, will be performing at the International Street Theatre Festival in Halmstad, Sweden.
Both performances aim to promote diversity and challenge discrimination against minorities in their respective countries. This innovative use of street theatre will raise awareness, proving how drama can be used as a means to engage with all levels of society.
APTF and NCCA will be taking part in the 20th anniversary celebrations of a festival that offers 52 performances over five days, with artists from 15 different countries.
APTF and NCCA will take the stage in Halmstad on 23 and 26 July, at Halmstad Andersberg on 24, and at Halmstad Vallasa on 25. APTF will also perform at Nöjsomhed (Helsingör-Denmark) on 29 July, Helsinborg (Sweden) on 30, and finally at Kokkedal (Denmark) on 31.
These performances are funded by the Culture Foundation of the Swedish Postcode Lottery as part of the Drama, Diversity and Development (DDD) project. Through DDD, civil society organizations and street theatre companies, activists and artists are working together to prepare hundreds of performances before audiences across the Middle East and North Africa.
DDD is funded by the European Union under the regional programme ‘MedCulture‘ and carried out by MRG, the Civic Forum Institute, the Andalus Institute for Tolerance and Anti-Violence Studies, and the Prince Claus Fund For Culture and Development. MedCulture’s ultimate goal is to pave the way towards the development of institutional and social environments that will confirm culture as vector for freedom of expression and sustainable development and to accompany partner countries in south of the Mediterranean in the development and improvement of cultural policies and practices related to the culture sector.
