Minority Rights Group International appoints Professor Joshua Castellino as new Executive Director
Minority Rights Group International (MRG) announced today that Professor Joshua Castellino will succeed Mark Lattimer as the organization’s new Executive Director.
Professor Castellino, currently Professor of Law and Dean of the School of Law, as well as the Business School, at Middlesex University, London, is a widely recognized leader in the field of minority and indigenous peoples’ rights. His noted academic career has focused on these issues and he previously chaired the eighth UN Forum on Minorities. Professor Castellino has authored and edited eight books on international law and human rights law, on self-determination, title to territory and the rights of indigenous peoples, as well as numerous articles on a range of related topics.
‘Having worked for two decades on the design and critique of legal systems’ failure to provide minorities with meaningful access to rights, I am now really excited to join MRG, ‘said Professor Castellino, ‘The organization’s demonstrated track record of supporting minorities and indigenous communities all around the world, and the commitment and drive of its staff to make a difference, are inspiring. I look forward to working within MRG and with its many global partners to build a world where diversity is viewed as a source of solutions to a world going wrong, and where the identity of an individual is not a hindrance to the achievement of communities’ human potential.’
After an international search which drew candidates from several continents, the Search Committee – with the assistance of recruitment firm Perrett Laver – came to an unanimous decision to appoint Professor Castellino as MRG’s new Executive Director.
With racism and religious persecution on the rise throughout the world, MRG faces new challenges in protecting minority and indigenous rights. The need for a competent and resilient new leader is all the more pertinent, and among the excellent candidates who came forward in the recruitment process, Professor Castellino is clearly the right leader.
MRG looks forward to welcoming Professor Castellino when he takes up the position at the beginning of October 2018.
