From disparity to dignity: High Level Political Forum side-event

Discrimination is a major, persistent obstacle to sustainable development, both at the individual and societal levels – particularly in the wake of COVID-19 which has exacerbated inequalities and fostered new, virulent forms of discrimination, racism and xenophobia.

This event will address the discriminatory barriers in law, policy and practice that prevent women, indigenous people and ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities from enjoying their rights on an equal footing and contribute to their marginalization in development. It will look at the way these barriers have exacerbated the impacts of COVID-19 for particular groups and communities, specifically with regard to health (Goal 3) and decent work (Goal 8). Speakers will draw out common themes and recommendations for a just, rights-based recovery from Covid-19.

This official HLPF side-event is organized by Minority Rights Group International, and Center for Economic & Social Rights. It is co-sponsored by OHCHR, Keele University, the Center for Law & Justice, and others.
