FAIR Programme Intern (Hungarian speaking)

Minority Rights Group Europe is looking for a Hungarian-speaking intern to work on its FAIR Programme. The FAIR Programme started in 2018 with the cooperation of 4 organizations from 4 European countries in order to develop an easy-to-use multilingual app for persons suspected or accused of crime and empower them with knowledge of their rights enshrined in the relevant EU directives which establish the minimum standards for procedural rights in criminal proceedings. The project is funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme (2014-2020), and ends in September 2020.

Tasks: We are looking for a Hungarian-speaking intern to support the programme with tasks including (but not limited to):

  • Administrative and logistical support to the programme officer (helping to organise meetings and seminars, organise trips within Hungary and participate at the meetings/seminars, putting together mailing and advocacy lists, etc.).
  • Research and drafting of texts for internal and external use on issues relating to the programme.
  • Translation of relevant documents from Hungarian to English and vice versa.

Essential skills / qualifications:

  • Fluency and advanced writing skills in Hungarian and English
  • Knowledge of criminal law, EU law, and constitutional law
  • Capacity to conduct desk-based research
  • Ability to work towards tight deadlines
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Teamwork skills

Desirable skills / qualifications:

  • Knowledge of human rights
  • Understanding of EU directives
  • Understanding of Hungarian criminal procedure law and penal enforcement law

The intern would work at MRG’s Budapest office a minimum of 2 days a week, for a minimum period of 6 weeks, with an option to renew upon mutual agreement.
