Attack on Iraqi Mandaeans condemned

29 April 2009

Minority Rights Group International on Wednesday expressed concern over continuing attacks against Iraq’s Mandaean community. Last week three Mandaeans working in a jewellery shop were reportedly gunned down while three others were injured in Baghdad. This latest incident follows the reported shooting of a 8 year-old Mandaean boy, his father and uncle also in Baghdad. Mandaean organisations in Iraq are demanding an independent investigation into these attacks and are calling on the Iraqi government to act swiftly to bring justice for the families of the victims.
