Research Consultant

Are you passionate about research in the areas of minority and indigenous rights, and are you an experienced researcher looking for freelance work in a leading international NGO? Do you have region specific knowledge in Europe, Africa, the Americas, Middle East, Asia, Australia and Pacific Islands?

We are seeking to build up a pool of freelance researchers and writers. We will offer commissioned work periodically to members of this group who can support us in the updating and development of the World Directory of Minorities and Indigenous Peoples (as well as potentially other publications). This online resource provides an update on minorities and indigenous peoples in 226 countries and territories worldwide. Our Directory readership is over 1 million, including UN representatives, national and international policymakers, human rights lawyers and journalists.

MRG welcomes applications from researchers and activists who can help our team of experts develop this flagship database. We invite applications from postgraduates working in the areas of international law, politics and international relations, human rights, policy, minority and indigenous rights, participatory research, cultural and media studies, environmental studies, linguistics, anti-racism, anthropology and related fields.

This is a paid consultancy opportunity (£350-£500 per Directory entry), working remotely.

To apply for this position, please fill out the form below.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates belonging to ethnic, religious, linguistic, sexual and gender minorities, those from indigenous communities, as well as candidates with disabilities.

Normally, MRG destroys candidate application records 6 months after an application for data privacy reasons unless the candidate has worked for us. As we are creating a pool of experts and some may not be called upon for some time, if you apply to this opportunity, you do so on the understanding that if you are accepted into the pool, we will retain your application and contact details until you ask us to remove them or 10 years after your application or 10 years after your most recent piece of work for us (whichever date is later).
