Article 26, Article 1 Optional Protocol – discrimination on the ground of other status – conscientious objectors:

French legislation required a longer term of alternative service for conscientious objectors.

Conclusion:

Violation of Article 26: The Human Rights Committee found that the longer term of alternative service for conscientious objectors is not justified and violated Article 26 on the grounds of opinion.

Not inadmissible under Article 1 Optional Protocol: author qualifies as a victim.
