MRG Executive Director Leads New Online Course – ‘Human Rights, Human Wrongs’

Today, the SDG Academy launches Human Rights, Human Wrongs: Challenging Poverty, Vulnerability and Social Exclusion, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focusing on human rights and their significance in a sustainable development context.

The 11-week online course is led and instructed by experts in the field – Dr Joshua Castellino, Executive Director of Minority Rights Group International, and Dr Sarah Bradshaw, Head of the School of Law at Middlesex University. It brings together two different perspectives on rights – the legal and the social– to explore what implementing a rights-based agenda entails and examines how rights are understood worldwide and the barriers that prevent rights from being experienced as a lived reality.

The course is available to all and is particularly created for graduate and advanced undergraduate students, human rights practitioners, lawyers, policymakers, private-sector actors and sustainable development practitioners.

Human Rights, Human Wrongs: Challenging Poverty, Vulnerability and Social Exclusion is available on edX, a leading online MOOC provider that offers 1900+ different courses to an audience of 14 million learners worldwide. The course launches today, but enrolment is open until early April 2019.

The course content – videos, transcripts, reading materials and assessments – is available free of cost. On edX, learners can audit a course (access and complete all material at no cost) or opt-in for a Verified certificate priced at USD 49. A learner may upgrade for the certificate towards the end of the course and apply for financial assistance if they wish to achieve a Verified Certificate but cannot afford it.
