Prize opportunity for refugee projects
Submissions are now being accepted for the 2024 Ockenden International Prizes. Four cash Prizes will be awarded for projects proven to advance refugee self-reliance, recognise the agency, dignity and autonomy of refugees and forced migrants anywhere.
Deadline: 30 November 2023
Prize amount per winner: 25,000 GBP
The cash prizes recognize and reward innovative work that promotes self-reliance among refugees and/or displaced people anywhere in the world. ‘Self-reliance’ is understood broadly and may be furthered by projects promoting education, providing legal assistance, or developing life skills and by any other programmes that help displaced people build stable, independent lives.
Submissions are sought from non-profit organisations, which can enter their own projects or alternatively nominate projects managed by non-profit partners or affiliated organisations. Projects can be led by – or have a high level of participation from – the project beneficiaries themselves.
To be eligible for a 2024 Prize, entries must have started before March 1, 2023. To comply with the rules, projects or programmes entered have to be at least six months old (as of August 31, 2023). The time frame allows entrants to provide the evidence required to be in the running for one of the four annual Prizes which reward the achievements of existing refugee and/or displaced people projects, not programmes or planned projects seeking start-up funds.
Application and submission
The project – for refugees and/or internally displaced people (IDPs) – should be the entire focus of your entry, which must be in English. Financial detail must by in $US.
To submit, use the online interactive Entry Form.
If it is not possible for your organisation to enter the contest through the online form (or you would simply like a hardcopy for reference) download the PDF version of the Entry Form, print the form, fill in block letters, and post it to: 2024 Ockenden International Prizes, c/- Context Graphics Limited, 1 Savernake Court, Old Church Lane, Stanmore, Middlesex, HA7 2RJ, United Kingdom, to be received no later than Thursday, November 30, 2023.
The annual GBP100,000 prize money will be shared equally by four winners – to be announced by the end of March 2024 – who will each receive GBP25,000 to further their project and programme ambitions.
