Author on report on situation of Western Thrace Turkish minority in Greece

Minority Rights Group International (MRG) is seeking to recruit a consultant to research and author a report in English of around 20,000 words on the situation of the Western Thrace Turkish minority in Greece, spanning a range of issues facing the community. Among other areas, this will include:

  • History of the minority up to the present day, including a general social, cultural and economic profile of the community today.
  • Discussion of legal background.
  • Analysis of different areas of potential discrimination, including political participation, language rights, development and other issues.
  • Conclusion and recommendations.

The publication will draw not on published research and reporting but also draw on inputs from partners and interviews with key stakeholders, in person or through Skype. If travel is required, the expenses will be covered in addition to the author fee.

First draft – 11 March.

Submission of final text – 7 April

Fee:  2350 Euros

Applicants should have a good understanding of the situation in Western Thrace, a background in human rights work and strong English language writing skills. Some knowledge of Greek would also be an asset.
