Anti-minority hate speech in South Asia: A call for collaborative action
This multi-country report, the fifth in the South Asia Collective’s series of annual reports on minority rights in South Asia, seeks to shine a light on the pandemic of hate playing out in the region with devastating consequences for its minorities – religious, ethnic, caste, linguistic and gender.
Through conversations on the report with experts and practitioners in the field, the online launch event aims to raise awareness about the growing threat to minority rights in South Asia – the causes, drivers and consequences of campaigns of anti-minority hate – and to learn from global perspectives on hate and incitement and ways to challenge the phenomenon. It is hoped that the event will also catalyse collaborations among actors to address anti-minority hate across South Asia, in considered and effective ways.
The event will be particularly useful for policy or decision-makers, non-governmental organizations, journalists, scholars, human rights defenders and minority activists.
