Iraq’s Displacement Crisis – Addressing the violations of today and the challenges of tomorrow
Two years after the major offensive of ISIS in the North of Iraq and the fall of Mosul, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) now stands at 3.4 million. Armed conflict continues across the country, causing further displacement, while the humanitarian, security and human rights situation for people already displaced is worsening.
This event will be an opportunity to provide an up-to-date overview of the situation of IDPs in Iraq since the ISIS onslaught and resulting conflict, to explore the facilitation of IDP returns to areas of origin, and to reflect upon the need for comprehensive post-liberation strategies
addressing security needs.
