Title: Culture and Human Rights – Arabic Online Course Tutor
Location: Remote/worldwide (however the tutor must be able to work around GMT+2)
Reports to: Egypt Programme Officer
Fee: €20 / hour
Duration. It is estimated that the work will consist of approximately 5 hours a week, for 20 weeks.
Contract Duration: July 2025 to November 2025

Background
Minority Rights Group (MRG) is an international non-governmental organization, with 50 years’ experience of working with non-dominant ethnic, religious and linguistic communities in nearly 60 countries. MRG is registered as a charity and a company limited by guarantee under English law. MRG devotes a great portion of its work to online education and training, to spread the knowledge of minority rights as well as to contribute to the development of the skills and capacities of civil society activists belonging to minorities and indigenous people and mainstream minority rights to ensure cooperation and understanding between different communities.
MRG is implementing the Strengthening Minority Voices programme to empower civil society actors, focusing on marginalized groups. It aims to promote and protect the rights of religious ethnic and gender minorities through enhanced advocacy, improved resilience and protection of activists and minority rights defenders and increased collaboration among minority and majority-based CSO. Its capacity building component includes online and face to face training.The online training provides participants with essential skills in advocacy, project design, and management to enhance their impact.
MRG is hiring an Arabic speaking online course tutor, who will be responsible to facilitate the contents of the new MRG’s online course developed within the Strengthening Minority Voices programme, specifically for the Cultural Advocacy Round. This course includes a refurbished interactive online course made of several modules addressing human rights knowledge on a minority issues and intersectionality, relevant cultural advocacy tools as well as project design and management skills catering to the needs of the target groups. The target groups to be trained include cultural organizations, human rights and minority rights organizations, artists. Although the course will be run online, it will be interactive, and each participant may also need to speak to the platform tutor on several occasions to discuss their assignments.
Tutor’s expertise and experience
The tutors must have a strong background and a demonstrated experience in human rights and cultural advocacy and knowledge of minority rights issues in Egypt, with highly developed skills in communication, excellent writing and liaison and analytical skills; ability to teach and supervise others. They will have a demonstrated experience in training within the country and understanding of the socio-economic, political and cultural environment to ensure that the course delivery effectively builds the capacity of the course participants.
Tutor’s duties and responsibilities
The tutor will be responsible for overseeing course delivery, student support, assessment, feedback and reports on participants’ progress to MRG.
Facilitation of Learning:
- Actively lead and moderate online discussions, webinars, and interactive sessions to ensure a stimulating learning environment.
- Provide clear guidance and respond to questions to assist participants in navigating course content, ensuring understanding of key concepts.
- Encourage participation and foster a collaborative and inclusive learning atmosphere.
Participant Support:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for participants, addressing concerns, questions, and technical issues related to the course platform.
- Monitor participant progress and engagement, offering timely feedback on assignments, quizzes, and activities.
- Motivate participants to stay on track with deadlines and course expectations.
Engagement and Interactivity:
- Promote active engagement with course materials through thought-provoking questions, practical exercises, and real-world applications.
- Facilitate group activities, peer-to-peer interactions, and collaborative projects, ensuring all participants are involved.
- Utilize a range of interactive tools such as polls, quizzes, and case studies to enhance learning and maintain high levels of participation.
Inclusivity and Cultural Sensitivity:
- Ensure the course materials and discussions are inclusive, sensitive to diverse backgrounds, and relevant to the Egyptian context.
- Address diverse perspectives and foster an environment of mutual respect among participants from different cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Provide constructive feedback on assignments, quizzes, and group work, offering personalized recommendations for improvement.
- Develop assessment tools in collaboration with course editors to measure participants’ learning progress and knowledge retention.
- Track and report participant performance, identifying areas where further support may be needed.
Content Collaboration and Adaptation:
- Recommend adjustments to materials or teaching approaches based on participant feedback or learning difficulties encountered during the course.
Course Monitoring and Improvement:
- Gather and analyze participant feedback to continuously improve the delivery of the course.
- Provide detailed reports on participant engagement, completion rates, and suggestions for improving future course offerings.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Assist participants in resolving any technical issues they may encounter with the online platform.
- Ensure smooth operation of online sessions, managing technical logistics for webinars, video conferencing, and other digital tools.
- Ensure that the participants have received their certificate at the end of training.
Expected Deliverables
- A well-facilitated online course with high levels of participant engagement.
- Regular participant progress reports, detailing engagement and completion rates.
- Feedback and assessment on participants’ assignments, quizzes, and group projects.
- A final report summarizing the overall course facilitation experience, participant performance, and suggestions for future course improvements, and completion list of names.
MRG’s roles and responsibilities
MRG will provide:
- A list of trainees’ names and contacts, and webinar dates.
- Assessment information (including learning outcomes, assessment criteria as well as assessment procedures and dates) is provided in the course, modules or topics, and assessment exemplars are made available to platform tutors and participants.
- A mid-term and end of course meeting with the tutor to discuss any challenges and issues arising.
- Evaluation feedback to the tutor.
Timeframe
The consultant will start working approximately in July 2025 and will need to be available intermittently until October 2025 (specific timeline will be discussed with the project team).
We envision a total of approximately 15 hours per week during the delivery of the course.
Person Specification
Essential
- Knowledge of the Egyptian social and political context, particularly in relation to human rights, cultural advocacy, and minority issues.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating online training or educational courses, particularly in cultural advocacy, human rights, or civil society fields.
- Strong understanding of e-learning platforms, digital communication tools, and interactive teaching methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in [Arabic/English].
- Ability to manage and support a diverse group of participants from different cultural and social backgrounds.
- Proven ability to foster a collaborative, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage course timelines, participant progress, and reporting.
- High level of digital literacy and comfort with various online communication and education platforms (e.g., Zoom, Moodle, etc.).

- Previous experience working with civil society organizations or in cultural rights education.
- Experience in providing feedback and facilitating learning in cross-cultural environments.
