Purpose of the job

MRG is seeking an experienced editor to review, edit an online course on minority rights made of 8 modules on Minority Rights, LGBTQIA+ Rights, intersectional discrimination and skills on different forms of advocacy (national, cultural, international) as well as modules on project design and management. The course materials have been authored by experts in the field and are designed to support civil society organizations in enhancing their understanding and capacity in these areas. The role of the editor is crucial in ensuring the clarity and coherence of the course content before it is made available to participants as well as enhance its interactivity. The editor will also provide additional content through interactive exercises for the Minority Rights, Intersectional Discrimination and the International Advocacy Modules.

The post holder will edit course materials produced by multiple authors and MRG will review it. The editor will combine and edit materials to ensure cohesive and organized course structure. The course is expected to have a mix of theoretical and technical aspects, with interactive and know-how elements, including videos, graphics, interviews, webinars, and case studies. The administration of the course will be led by MRG.

Main duties and responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and editing the course materials developed by the authors to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness. Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Organize the course structure, ensuring it aligns with the course duration and learning objectives. Note: there will be 4 separate target groups for the course. Each target group will complete 3 modules pre-selected from both theoretical and technical aspects of the course. For every 3-4-module combination, the duration must span 6-8 weeks.
  • Standardizing the structure of each module of the course, ensuring consistency and readability for participants.
  • Reviewing course materials for clarity, coherence and ensuring that the content is accessible and easy to understand for participants.
  • Evaluate multimedia materials, such as videos and graphics, to ensure they are engaging, culturally appropriate, and contribute effectively to the learning experience of participants.
  • Collaborate with authors for clarification and further materials if needed.
  • If needed, collaborate with the e-tutors responsible for facilitating the course to provide clarifications on certain topics.
  • Enhance the interactive elements within the course materials to maximize participant engagement and interactivity, such as quizzes, and interactive exercises
  • Edit examples, case studies, and references to ensure they are relevant and relatable to the Egyptian context, incorporating local examples and real-life scenarios where applicable.
  • Ensuring that the course materials adhere to the target audience’s needs.
  • Ensuring that the course materials comply with relevant formatting and style guidelines.
  • Providing suggestions for improvements to enhance the overall quality of the course materials.
  • Meeting project deadlines and communicating effectively with the project team.

Person specification

  • Experience in working with educational or training materials, preferably in human rights, minority rights, and advocacy.
  • Excellent editing skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Arabic language with a working knowledge of English.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with authors and project team.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and instructional design principles is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and social justice through educational initiatives.
  • Experience in human rights and/or minority rights is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Egyptian context is desirable

Materials expected to be edited and delivered

  • Comprehensive training materials developed by the authors, including text for up to 4 modules covering various topics related to minority rights, advocacy, and intersectional discrimination.
  • Assessments and interactive materials accompany the course content.
  • Any additional materials or resources provided by the authors or project team.

MRG’s roles and responsibilities

  • MRG will provide access to the course materials developed by the authors for editing purposes.
  • MRG will ensure that editors have the necessary support and resources to complete their tasks effectively.
  • MRG will review and approve the edited materials before they are finalized for use in the online training course.

Timeline

  • 28 May – call released  
  • 10 June – closing date to receive applications  
  • 17 June – final candidate confirmed and work beginning as soon as possible after that  
  • 14 August – submit the edited material
