Location: based remotely with good internet connectivity and in a compatible time zone
A: Purpose of the internship
The primary purpose of the MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) intern is to support the design, implementation, and management of MEL processes across individual projects and the organization. The MEL intern will assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure effective tracking of project outcomes, learning, and accountability. This role involves working closely with the MEL Coordinator to maintain accurate data and help facilitate timely reporting.
B: Main duties and responsibilities
The tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development of Theories of Change and Logframes for specific projects, including identifying SMART indicators and creating MEL plans and data storage tools.
- Create data collection tools.
- Perform quality checks on internal and donor reports for individual projects.
- Maintain and update trackers (e.g., periodic project reviews, external evaluation calendar).
- Provide support to projects in managing external evaluations, including selecting evaluators, reviewing inception reports, and evaluating drafts.
- Periodically collect and compile extracts from evaluations that are relevant across multiple projects, and communicate these findings to MRG management.
- Gather data for the development of internal and donor reports.
- Support projects in uploading and managing logframes on the EU OPSYS system.
- Ensure timely data submission from all projects to the organization’s database, including following up with projects to collect missing data.
- Maintain a MEL section on MRG’s intranet
C: As needed
- Undertake such other tasks as may reasonably be requested by the MEL Coordinator.
- Attend staff and other relevant meetings.
- Respect and work towards full implementation of MRG’s gender, disability and equal opportunities policies in all the work involved in this post.
- Maintain an awareness of MRG’s security guidelines, including those on digital security and data protection, and follow these when carrying out the work, as well as any other precautions as determined by line manager. Report any information that signals a change in the risk profile of MRG’s activities to a relevant manager.
Person Specification
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Computer literate.
- Fully numerate and able to develop, understand and monitor budgets.
- Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, including following guidance on digital security and data protection
- Ability to gain the confidence of donors and partners.
