Unforgotten: Advocating for Justice for the Erased

Organisation: Peace Institute – Institute for Contemporary Social and Political Studies|  Zavod Mirovni inštitut Ljubljana

Location: Slovenia

The project seeks to secure permanent residency for Slovenia’s Erased community, a group of over 25,000 people removed from official records in 1992, many of whom remain undocumented. The project will advocate for the adoption of a Draft Status Law, that provides a legal pathway to residency for those still without status, particularly elderly people, stateless Roma and others facing extreme vulnerability.

The initiative includes advocacy meetings with policymakers and collaboration with civil society to push for legislative change. An online awareness campaign will share personal stories of the Erased. Additionally, legal aid will be provided to help people secure documentation and offer psychosocial support to address the emotional and social challenges of statelessness.

The project aims to ensure that the Erased finally obtain legal recognition and the dignity of full inclusion in Slovenian society.

Grant Amount: €15,000
