‘When my daughter doesn’t speak in Hemshin with my mother, I feel ashamed. I wish they could speak in our mother tongue.’ Hemshins follows Olcay visiting his mother in their home village of Osmaniye. Olcay’s daughter, Tanya, is not keen on learning Hemshin, an archaic dialect of Armenian spoken by the eastern and northern Hemshin people. This film offers intimate insights into their daily life, exploring the impact of urbanisation and migration on language and cultural loss.
