Background
MRG is an international non-governmental organization, with 50 years’ experience of working with non-dominant minorities in nearly 60 countries. MRG has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). MRG is registered as a charity and a company limited by guarantee under English law.
MRG devotes a great portion of its work to capacity building and training, to spread knowledge of minority rights as well as to contribute to the development of the skills and capacities of civil society activists belonging to minorities and indigenous peoples and mainstream minority rights to ensure cooperation and understanding between different communities.
Strengthening Minority Voices is a programme implemented between 2023 to 2026. It aims to promote and protect the rights of Egypt’s religious, ethnic and gender minorities through enhanced advocacy, improved resilience and protection of activists and minority rights defenders and increased collaboration among minority and majority CSOs.
Purpose of the Training
We are inviting applications from motivated individuals to participate in an online training course focused on intersectional forms of discrimination between minority and gender related issues. This is designed to enhance skills in minority rights, gender equality, intersectionality, advocacy, and project management. The course is intended to build participants’ capacity to develop and implement advocacy and project-based initiatives that address challenges faced by marginalized and minority communities in Egypt.
As part of the application, applicants are required to submit a draft project idea that they will further develop and refine during the course. Successful trainees and their organizations will be given priority in applying for MRG’s grants within the Strengthening Minority Voices project.
Who Should Apply?
We are seeking participants who are:
- Working in or volunteering with women’s rights and gender equity civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), or advocacy groups in Egypt. People working in other human rights organizations are welcome to apply, but please note the priority will be to workers in women’s rights and gender equity NGOs.
- Committed to advancing the rights of marginalized and minority communities.
- Eager to apply the knowledge and skills gained to create impactful projects in their local communities.
Course Objectives
- Develop participants’ knowledge on minority/gender rights, intersectionality, and advocacy.
- Equip participants with practical tools to design, implement, and manage effective advocacy projects.
- Strengthen advocacy strategies for marginalized communities.
- Provide participants with the skills needed to transform their project ideas into fully realized initiatives.
Course Structure
The training will be delivered online over a period of 6 weeks, featuring the following elements:
- Modules: The course will consist of modules covering topics such as: Minority Rights, Gender Rights and Intersectionality; Advocacy skills; and Project Design and Management Skills.
- Project Development Focus: Each participant will develop their project proposal throughout the course, receiving guidance and feedback from trainers. By the end of the training, participants will have a well-developed advocacy or project plan ready for implementation.
- Interactive Learning: The course will include group discussions, interactive exercises, webinars, and expert talks to provide participants with hands-on learning and opportunities to collaborate with others.
- Webinars: Engage with experienced trainers who will provide insights into effective advocacy and project management techniques.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the training:
- Working in or volunteering with women’s rights and gender equity civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), or advocacy groups in Egypt
- Have a basic understanding of advocacy, project design, or management (previous experience preferred but not required).
- Be able to participate in online discussions and assignments actively
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to applying the skills and knowledge gained during the course to a real-world project.
Project idea
As part of your application, please submit a project idea that outlines the idea you wish to develop during the course. Your proposal should address a relevant issue in your community related to minority rights, gender equality, advocacy.
Your project proposal should be no longer than one paragraph that include:
- Project Title: A clear and concise title for your project.
- Project Goal and Objective: What is the main goal of your project? What problem or challenge does it seek to address?
- Target Audience: Who will benefit from the project? Specify the community or group your project is targeting.
- Activities: What are the key activities you plan to undertake as part of the project?
- Expected Outcomes: What are the intended results of your project?
- This proposal will be further developed during the course with the guidance of trainers.
Expected Outcomes of the Training
Upon completion of the course, participants will:
- Have a solid understanding of key concepts related to minority and gender rights and intersectionality.
- Gain practical skills in advocacy, project design, and management.
- Finalize a comprehensive project plan that can be implemented in their community or organization.
- Develop stronger networks and collaborative relationships with fellow participants and experts.
