ِAre you an Egyptian activist in diaspora? Are you working to promote human rights? Do you want to strengthen your understanding of minority rights and inclusion, improve your skills in project management and proposal design, and deepen your knowledge of international advocacy? 

We are now accepting applications for our online training course designed to equip Egyptian diaspora activists with the knowledge and tools to drive meaningful change for minority communities. 

We invite applications for our upcoming online training course: 

  • Dates: July to September 
  • Format: Live sessions and Self-paced materials flexibility 
  • Language: English/Arabic. Live sessions will be held in Arabic.
  • Certificate awarded upon completion 

About the Course 

We are inviting applications from motivated activists to participate in an online training course focused  on minority rights and international advocacy. This is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge skills in minority rights, gender equality, intersectionality, international advocacy, and project management. The course is intended to build participants’ capacity to develop and implement effective advocacy and project-based initiatives that address challenges faced by marginalized and minority communities in Egypt. 

Through expert-led sessions, group discussions, and analysis of real-world case studies, you’ll gain valuable insights and actionable strategies to apply in your work. As part of the training, participants will also be guided through the development of a concrete proposal idea—drawing on the course content and their own priorities—which they will have the opportunity to refine and submit for potential support or implementation. 

What You Will Gain

  • A broader view on advocacy channels within the EU and UN systems for minority rights.
  • Practical skills in project planning, management, and proposal writing.
  • Opportunities to connect with peers working on similar issues and develop your advocacy proposals 
  • Participants in this course will receive priority consideration in the upcoming round of small grants for projects advancing minority rights and intersectional justice. 

Learning Method

The training will be delivered online over a period of 10 weeks, featuring the following elements: 

  • Modules: The course will consist of modules that are self-paced, with the support of a dedicated tutor. 
  • Project Development Focus: Each participant will develop their advocacy project proposal throughout the course. 
  • Interactive Learning: The course will include group discussions, interactive exercises, webinars, and expert talks to provide participants with hands-on learning and opportunities to collaborate with others. 
  • Webinars: Engage with experienced trainers who will provide insights into effective advocacy and project management techniques. 

Who Should Apply? 

We welcome: 

  • Members and workers of Egyptian human rights and minority rights organizations abroad. 
  • Egyptian journalists residing abroad. 
  • Individuals in the diaspora working with Egyptian marginalized or minority communities or human rights organizations in Egypt 

The applicant must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to applying the skills and knowledge gained during the course to a real-world project and dedicate on average 4 hours per week to reading the course material.

As part of the application form: 

  • Participants are required to submit a short description of a project idea related to minority rights that they would like to develop further during or after the course. 
  • Include two references in the application, that can attest to your work and impact.

About the Organization 

MRG is an international non-governmental organization, with 50 years’ experience of working with non-dominant minorities in nearly 60 countries.  MRG has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). MRG is registered as a charity and a company limited by guarantee under English law.  

MRG devotes a great portion of its work to capacity building and training, to spread knowledge of minority rights as well as to contribute to the development of the skills and capacities of civil society activists belonging to minorities and indigenous peoples and mainstream minority rights to ensure cooperation and understanding between different communities. 

Strengthening Minority Voices is a programme implemented between 2023 to 2026. It aims to promote and protect the rights of Egypt’s religious, ethnic and gender/sexual minorities through enhanced advocacy, improved resilience and protection of activists and minority rights defenders and increased collaboration among minority and majority CSOs.
